The Classic Trench styled by Nikki Phillips

Guest post by Nikki Phillips

So what is the ultimate fashion classic? Well in my eyes, it’s the trench coat! The trench coat has been in the spotlight since forever, first making it’s starring role back in world war 1. Today it’s the most common staple wardrobe piece due to its style, sophistication and ability to keep fashionable for decades more.
The humble trench really is an iconic fashion staple and if you have never owned, worn or had a romantic love affair with the trench, well that’s all about to change.
So where to start to find your perfect trench? Sure there are many labels, colours, fabrics and price points. For me, it’s about affordability, lightweight and finding the ultimate camel colour. Camel is a colour that is so versatile, you can take it from day to night, winter to summer and it’s a classic, so let’s add longevity.

After hunting online and in stores, the winner for my ultimate classic camel trench was found at Katies. It comes in a lightweight fabric and is perfectly tailored to complement the body. It’s fully lined, double breasted and has the all-important REAL (not fake ) pockets which is perfect for those of us on the go, to stash phone, keys etc. Oh and the best part, it’s under $100!!!!!!!

New premium fabrics collection

styled by

Jess Dempsey | whatwouldkarldo.com

Guest post by Jess Dempsey

It has been brought to my attention that a good portion of my readers love the outfits I put together but would love to see how I put together more affordable outfits.

As you know the style theory I have lived by since creating this blog is to mix high street fashion with high end fashion, know what pieces to invest in that will live in your wardrobe for years to come such as shoes, bags, coats and leather and know what pieces you have the freedom to purchase to stay on trend at your leisure and budget.

I wanted to show you that style is what you make it, garments that suit you and your body style is more important than the price tag it cost you.  I thought it was important for me to team up with Katies and re-introduce them to you.

Yes, this outfit is from Katies, the shirt, the trench and the denim, all part of their highly anticipated and newly introduced transeasonal collection that boasts on trend pieces in premium fabrics at affordable prices.

As a stylist, my best advice is to always shop around, if you are looking for a denim shirt, look for the shirt not the brand. If you want to try a trend, find an affordable piece that fits into that trend as a trend is a trend for a reason, it stays for a bit and then disappears after a year or so (such as the military style we saw last year). I encourage you to check out the new Katies (here) for yourself and add it to your list of go-to stores when searching for that piece you are looking for.
